How VeRank handles your data
Last updated: 14 September 2026. This policy applies to the VeRank mobile app and the website https://verank.in, operated by VEPI Eduventures Private Limited ("we", "us"), India.
- We collect only what the app needs: your account details, your study profile and your practice activity.
- We do not show ads, we do not sell or rent your data, and we do not use advertising or third-party analytics SDKs.
- We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, microphone, or advertising ID.
- You can delete your account and its data from inside the app, or by following these steps.
1. What we collect
| Category | Details | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Email address; password (stored only as a salted hash, never in plain text); your name; if you sign in with Google or Apple, the user identifier and email those services share with us; short-lived email verification and password-reset codes (stored hashed); login session tokens (stored hashed). | Create and secure your account, sign you in, send verification and password-reset emails. |
| Study profile | Exam goal (JEE, NEET or both), class level (11, 12 or dropper), target exam year. | Choose the right subjects, chapters and question mix for you. |
| Practice activity | Sessions you start, the questions served, your answers and response times, whether each answer was correct, per-chapter level estimates computed from the difficulty tags of the questions you answer, daily activity and streak, formula cards you mark to revise, concept-check attempts, and any question reports you send (including the text you write). | Adapt the next question, show your progress and review list, keep your streak, fix broken questions. |
| Notification choices | Whether you opted in to study-reminder push notifications and to email updates (both are off by default). If you turn push notifications on, the push token issued for your device (via Expo's push service) and the platform (Android or iOS). | Deliver only the reminders and emails you asked for. |
| Technical logs | Standard server logs: IP address, time of request, app version and device type (user agent). Kept for a short period for security and reliability. | Keep the service running and detect abuse. |
| Feedback you send us | Quick feedback form on this website: your multiple-choice answers, any text you type, your browser type, and — only if you enter it — a contact email or phone number. Detailed feedback programme (time-limited, run through a Google Form): your name, the Google account email that Google Forms verifies, your written answers, the screenshots you upload from your own phone, and the phone number or UPI ID you give us to receive the thank-you payment. | Decide what to fix and build next; reply to you if you asked for a reply; ask a follow-up question about a problem you reported (by email); send the thank-you payment you qualified for. |
| Email updates list | If you sign up for updates on this website: your email address, the name you type (optional), the time you confirmed, and whether you later unsubscribed. If you gave your email address to VeRank or VeCareers in person or by enquiry (for example at a seminar or counselling session) and asked to hear from us, we may add that address to the same list, noting where we received it. Addresses that unsubscribe stay on file only so that we never email them again. | Send the study tips, feature news and exam updates you asked for. We send a confirmation email first when you sign up online, and every email carries an unsubscribe link. |
| Diagnostic log (on your device) | The app keeps a small sign-in diagnostic log on your device only. It is sent to us only if you choose to share it with support. | Help support resolve sign-in problems you report. |
The app does not collect precise or approximate location, contacts, photos or videos, audio, files, calendar data, health data, browsing history, or the advertising ID. The only files we ever receive are the screenshots you choose to upload in the detailed feedback programme, and the only payment-related detail we ever hold is the phone number or UPI ID you give us there so that we can pay you. VeRank contains no advertising and no in-app purchases.
2. How we use your data
- To provide the service: sign-in, personalised practice, adaptive tests, progress and review.
- To communicate about your account: verification codes, password resets, and replies to your support requests or question reports.
- To send study reminders or email updates only if you opted in. You can switch these off at any time from the Me tab; every marketing email also carries an unsubscribe link.
- To keep the service secure and reliable, including rate limiting and abuse detection.
- To improve question quality using aggregated, de-identified statistics (for example, how often a question is answered correctly). These statistics cannot identify you.
Level estimates shown in the app are derived from the difficulty tags of the questions you answer. They are study aids, not predictions of exam rank or results, and we never use them to profile you for advertising.
3. Question content
Questions, options and solutions are supplied to our server by our own question-bank service (PrepAlly Edge) and cached on our server. The mobile app never contacts that service directly, and we do not send your identity, profile, answers or progress to it.
4. Who processes your data
We do not sell, rent or share your personal data with third parties for their own purposes. We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf under contract:
- Hosting and database – our application and database run on managed cloud infrastructure, which may be located outside India.
- Email delivery – transactional and (if opted in) marketing emails are sent through an email delivery provider.
- Push notifications – if you opt in, reminders are delivered through Expo's push service and the device platform's notification service (Google or Apple).
- Detailed feedback programme – while it runs, responses and screenshots are collected through Google Forms and stored in our Google Drive; payments are made through UPI (for example Google Pay) to the number or ID you give us.
- Sign-in providers – if you choose to sign in with Google or Apple, those companies process your sign-in under their own privacy policies.
We may disclose data if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of students, staff or the public, or as part of a merger or acquisition (in which case this policy continues to apply to your data).
Institute partners
If you choose to join an institute in VeRank, that institute can see your name, class and learning activity from the date you join. This includes when you last practised, question totals, accuracy by subject and chapter, test scores, streak and progress over time. It cannot see activity from before you joined.
You can leave at any time from Me → Institute. Leaving removes you from the institute's reports immediately. VeRank never shares your data with an institute you did not join, and your email address, phone number and other contact details are never shared with an institute.
5. Retention and deletion
- Your account and practice data are kept for as long as your account exists.
- Verification and password-reset codes expire shortly after they are issued. Login sessions expire or are revoked when you sign out.
- When you delete your account (Me tab → Delete Account, or see Delete your account), we permanently delete your account, profile, practice activity, notification preferences, push tokens, formula-card marks, concept-check attempts, question reports and support notes from our live database at once. Residual copies in encrypted backups are removed within 30 days.
- We retain internal, access-restricted audit records of staff actions (which may reference your account identifier) for up to 24 months for security and compliance, and server logs for a short period.
- Feedback answers are kept as long as they are useful for improving VeRank. Contact details and browser type recorded with the quick feedback form are removed automatically 90 days after submission; the anonymous answers remain. For the detailed feedback programme, phone numbers and UPI IDs are deleted within 90 days after the payment is made, and names, emails and screenshots within 6 months after the programme closes.
- Aggregated statistics that cannot identify you may be kept indefinitely.
6. Students under 18
Many JEE and NEET aspirants are under 18. If you are under 18, you may use VeRank only with the consent of your parent or legal guardian, who agrees to this policy on your behalf and may exercise your rights described below. We do not knowingly process a child's data for behavioural monitoring, tracking or targeted advertising, and we do not show advertising to anyone. If you believe a child has provided us data without parental consent, contact privacy@verank.in and we will delete it.
7. Your rights and choices
- Access and correction – you can view and edit your name and study profile in the app. For a copy of your data, email us from your registered address.
- Deletion – delete your account in the app or follow these steps.
- Notifications – switch reminders and email updates on or off in the Me tab at any time. If you receive updates without an account, use the unsubscribe link in any email or write to us; you will not be emailed again even if your address is given to us later.
- Withdraw consent – you may withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account; the app cannot function without the data described in section 1.
- Grievances – under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you may raise a grievance with us using the contact below. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may approach the Data Protection Board of India.
8. Security
All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted with TLS. Passwords, session tokens and one-time codes are stored only as hashes. Staff access to student data is limited to support needs, protected by separate staff accounts, and recorded in append-only audit logs. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Changes to this policy
We will post any changes on this page and update the date at the top. For significant changes we will also notify you in the app or by email.
